Love is in the Air

Love is in the Air

This Valentine's day was slightly different, actually pretty much different from the way we celebrate. It wasn't with hubby nor with my other family members. With my colleague you might say ? Nah... not quite right either.

This time it was with a bunch of working professional women, who got together on Valentines for a day of fun, laughter & excitement. Some were total strangers & some whom I've known like forever...

The event themed love is in the air, was held at Betjeman & Barton in One Utama.
More than a century old name, Betjeman & Barton is a French tea house that serves the finest tea called Pouchkine. It has a recipe that originated 40 years ago. It had a favorable aroma that kept us wanting more & more.

While guests enjoyed sipping on their 'magic potion', we were introduced to Dr. Shelby Koo, founder of Bisou Bon Bon. The bubbly young entrepreneur was proud to introduce her perfume bar. A bar that boast all ingredients to make a magic elixir that is both interesting & unique in its own way

Perfume Bar by Bisou Bon Bon

I was curious beyond imagination. I've not seen a perfume bar before let alone in making one myself.

A doctor by profession, She loves beauty, fashion and ventured into a line that is totally a different spectrum all together. She gave us a lil introduction on how we can make our own perfume that can be kept for own plessure or given as a gift of love.

In order to make one, one should understand the 3 basic notes. The top, middle and the base note.
These are group of scents that can be sensed with respect to the time after the application of a made perfume.

Top Note
What you sense when you first apply to your pulse points
Shelby described it as the first smell that dances around you ! Now every time I use my perfume Im going to think about the top note dancing around me.

Example of Top notes for perfume

Middle Note
Is what you perceive much later during the day. The smell are all based on the theory of evaporation. Which one evaporates first or much later.

Base Note
Is what you perceive at the end of the day

A simple step by step guide was given to us to ease the perfume making journey. It was very informative & I enjoyed choosing the essential oils for my perfume. This is what I chose

Top note - Bergamo & Mandarin essential oils
Middle note - Lavender, Palmarosa and Juniperberry essential oils
Base note - Neroli & Frankincense essential oils

Once I've completed all steps, Shelby took the perfume I created & smelt it. A few seconds later she said Im a very friendly and easy going character ! I was amazed. She has so much passion for this field and senses your character by the perfume you create. She was right about my friend's character too.

This event was also the pilot project for Tammy Lim, the first President of WeVents. She took over from the founder Jeanisha Wan. She is a very friendly and bubbly, inspiring many Malaysian bloggers out there including me. She personally welcomed each & every guests on the day of the event, not many would do that !

She will be organising many more events, so stay tuned !

  3. I've never heard of a perfume bar, but that is really unique and cool! I like that it's with essential oils, too. I think these creative bar type businesses are the new thing now because I recently heard of something similar but with lipsticks. I hope her business is successful!
