Define Tastemakers

DEFINE TASTEmakers

The Define invitation was very unique and it was sent personally by their staff a week before the event. It definitely couldn't have arrived in the mail.... it was huge with two coffee cups ! Yup.... you heard it right.... it did come with two coffee cups.

You are given almost two weeks to come up with something that describes you best..... then try and doodle that onto the cups given. Hashtag #DEFINETASTEmakers on instagram with your cup and the top 10 entries will receive Define - worthy prizes.

Each coffee cup gives you one entry to the Define event

It comes with 2 markers for you to doodle straight away - no exceptions

Doodle here to show your creative side

The invitation really captured my attention. If the invitation was this unique, Im sure the event will be even better. I get to take another person along since I have two coffee cups..... I approached my husband but he was slightly reluctant till I showed him the invitation & he agreed.

Registration

The event was held at Avenue K just opposite KLCC. Its starts at 6pm onwards till late. We were given some drink coupons at the registration for some Beer and soft drinks and  a little briefing about the event.

As you enter the venue, the first think you stumble upon is the Painting area !! Yup.... painting !! I didn't expect this and was kinda excited so was hubby. We decided to check out the whole place before coming back here to paint.

The had a lot of different varieties of lollipops at the center area to trickle your tastebuds..... some where made fr strawberries, vanilla and chocolates. Yeah you might say these are just some common random lollipops......... but wait till you hear this !  Some of them were made from Tea ! And some had lil whiskey and chili to challenge your taste-buds.

You can also custom make your lollipops there. Just choose the flavors you want and they will mix it for you on the spot. We went safe with a vanilla and honey lollipops but she recommended dark chocolate lollipop with a lil whiskey and chilli.... it sounded pretty interesting and so we decided to try it out...... and it turned out great ! I decided to have another one.... cause it was supper delicious. Watch how it's done step by step

The lollipop stick is first kept on the ice block - then pour the dark chocolate onto the stick

Keep poring the dark chocolate till you get a nice circular shape... then she added the whiskey & Chilli
Slide the lolli a few times on the ice block to freeze it.... and there you have it ! Your very own customed lollipops

While enjoying the spiced up lollipops, we walked out to the garden where the main stage was. The view was just breathtaking........ From where we stood, we could see the majestic Petronas Twin Towers. At a staggering 452 meters in height, this twin towers dominate our Malaysian skyline. The whole venue was filled up with cozy chairs randomly facing the stage

The Define Booth was definitely a hit that night. They were constantly people taking photos around it an inside the booth, whether it was a group photo or selfie Im sure it would be popping up as their Facebook profile photos for the next week or so. I got my share of photo taken with the Booth too.

There were many performances lined up for the night. A lot of solo songs, group band performance, and dances. I personally was impressed with the dance. A bunch of young and enthusiastic dancers stole the night by bringing art to live right in front your eyes.......... They danced while painting on the stage & on an actual car which was draped in white cloth.

A short video on the dance performance

It started to drizzle a bit, and so we thought of going indoors for a bit till the rain subsides. We decided to put our creativity forward and become Van Gogh for the night.

Painting can 'Define' your emotions and thoughts on canvas.... and I think thats exactly what my husband had in mind. He was pretty excited and immediately decided to paint without thinking twice. He grabbed a few paint brushes, a few acrylic colors and a canvas. With the help of an artist who was there to help all first timers, he started painting & painting & painting.......

All in all, it was a great event. My Saturday night was well spent here. I would definitely make it a point to participate in the next DEFINE event. Thanks to the Define team for organizing and putting up a great show

The Women's Weekly - Exclusive Screening of Hundred Foot Journey

It was almost 1pm and i was still in the waiting area waiting for my son's ultrasound in Pantai Hospital. The lil one was very cranky and hungry....all I could do was just wait and hope his name will be called soon. I can then take him for lunch and wait to see the Doctor next.

In the midst of all these, I get a call from Women's Weekly team !! ''Would you like to join us and confirm your attendance for the Exclusive screening of Hundred Foot Journey this Saturday with the Women's weekly''. I was very excited .... If I say yes, this will be my very first experience with the Women's Weekly. The caller repeated again as I didn't give a reply and this time I said YES of course !! I'll be there at 9am. Do count me in.

We got called in next for the ultrasound of the abdomen and the results were normal..... so its a double joy!!

The Screening was to be held at the GCS signature - Gardens Mall on the 30th of August at 9.30am. I remember watching SATC - Sex and the City with my girlfriends here a few years back.

GSC Signature - The Gardens Mall

On the day of the event, I left home early so that i will be on time for the screening. Wasn't too sure if i came to the right place until i saw this poster up in front of the GSC signature entrance..... and I was glad ! I did come to the right place after-all.

Take five with the Women's Weekly

We were greeted by Ms. Ashley at the registration table, after signing in we get to choose a number for the lucky draw that will be held before the screening. We were then ushered in to have some light refreshments and to mingle around with the other participants.

For me it was a day to relax, sit back and meet new friends..... i would say an event to de stress myself. Stress has become such a normal part of our daily life and sometimes we become very immune to it. The Women's Weekly has definitely done me a favor by allowing me to relax by putting my work aside for a few hours and to enjoy the new experiences gained from this event.

Loads of food to satisfy our big appetite

GSC signature offers premiere class and Gold class. This Hundred Foot Journey was to be held at the Gold Class theater. As most of you would have already known this by now, GSC is the first cinema chain to offer a Gold Class auditorium with an attached lounge in our country. I was so excited when I saw the wide comfortable reclining seats that comes with a blanket and a small pillow. You can recline it to 180 degrees.......... its like watching it at the comfort of your home but only better with the standard quality picture and state of the art digital sound system.

Everyone immediately got comfortable

By the time, Deputy Editor, Ms Rina came to give her welcome speech, I was all cosy, warm and comfortable. She had 5 pairs of tickets to give away for the Le Cordon Bleu cooking demonstration worth RM600 as their lucky draw prize. And these are the 5 lucky winners........ they get to take a friend along too. How cool is that !!

This Movie is based on the novel The hundred Foot Journey written by Richard C.Morais. It's about Kadam family who was forced to leave India to another place as their restaurant in Mumbai got burned down. They decided to start all over again in a small village in South of France just apposite Madame Mallory's Michelin-starred eatery. Now, outraged by the new arrivals, Madame Mallory was determined to shut down their business. Both sides went all out to bring the other person down.  This war eventually ends up in love, peace & fusion of Indian and French Cuisine..... Its one of those rare movies that gets better as it goes and I loved it ! Just watch the trailer..... it practically summarises everything :)

The two hours went by so fast..... and i was very reluctant to leave my comfortable reclining chair but all good things must end at some point... It was indeed a great experience for me with the Women's weekly team and im hoping for many more in the near future. Each one of us got a goody bag before we left ! I was trilled..... we got a nice vintage looking container, a Neogene Hydrating cream, a Women's Weekly note book and a Bobbi Brown voucher for a make up session...... Wooohooo !!!

Kuala Lumpur Vintage Festival

Kuala Lumpur Vintage Festival (KLVF) is a 5 day event from 28th August till 1st September. So if you have missed the first 4 days, fret not.... you still have one more day to go before it ends. Its from 10am to 10pm in Stadium Merdeka Kuala Lumpur.... right in the heart of the city. The entrance is just RM 1 per person.

You can see all the vintage enthusiast under one roof, from those who collect old papers, books, comics to old toys, coke bottles, suitcases and many more. It was visually pleasing for all vintage lovers. My husband went crazy looking at all the yesteryear items....

This event is brought to you by Pintu merah and its their 4th year running. This time they decided to have it in conjunction with our 57th Merdeka Celebration. And so we will get a lil more this year.... an open cinema under the moon featuring old movies....esp P. Ramlee movies, some documentaries on old Kuala Lumpur and its history. It will definitely bring out the spirit of patriotism in us.

The entrance through the Merdeka Stadium

We went there right after lunch... so it wasnt too crowded. I was definitely glad i didn't bring my 2 toddlers for the event as there wasn't much for the kids to do plus it was a lil hot. They were fast asleep at home while we shopped :)

close to 200 traders were down from all over the country to showcase their vintage collections

There were loads of antiques on sale as well and some of them brought back fond memories of my childhood.

old Ninja Turtle action figures

countless antique typewriters... they can help repair it too

classic bicycle

many coke cans and bottles from different countries
and some of which were produced in the 1960s

wooden posters

smaller ones for just RM 5 per piece

you can also find some t-shirts and ear ring with a lil retro touch to it

We got a few old comics ( the ones that my husband use to read when he was a lil boy ), Some vintage clothings for the lil ones who were fast asleep at home, some fridge magnets and some antique posters..... hubby loves collecting old stuff and he is planning to get a cupboard of some sort to store all these items. He already has some precious items at home lying untouched somewhere in the storeroom yet to be organized.

This event is a must go if you love vintage items, if you are an antique collector or you just want to relive a bygone era by looking at the countless vintage and antique items that are on display. If none of these excites you in any way.... then you might look into something else this weekend :)
